Waldstatt II (Alter Sylvester; CS 400D & Portra 400)
In the late 15 hundreds, when the outer valleys of Appenzell followed the reformation despite the capital town maintaining its catholic tradition, the young canton that had only recently joined the Swiss confederation was divided into two separate parts. Against those tensions, the Gregorian calendar, introduced by the Pope around that same time, found little support in places like Urnäsch or Waldstatt. They still celebrate “Old New Year’s Eve” on the 13th of January to this day (albeit nowadays, in addition to the 31st of December). Every year, the traditional Sylvesterkläuse thus mount into their heavy "grost" twice.
